"Roundtable" meeting on 15-16 November 2023

The 'Round Table' meeting of 10 representatives of the All-Poland Alliance of Trade Unions took place on 15-16 November 2023 in Szklarska Poręba.

In the first part of the meeting, Paweł Śmigielski reminded the participants of the most important conclusions from the conducted workshops, also in terms of the current situation on the labour market and the emerging information about the return of a large part of refugees to Ukraine, as well as the movement of Ukrainians to Germany. It was pointed out that Ukrainian workers are very mobile and ready for change, which affects the situation on the Polish labour market, where there are problems in finding employees.

During the discussion, there were also threads about the relocation of refugees to other areas of our country, as well as about a possible compulsory Polish language course. This is related to the fact that in all studies, poor or no knowledge of the Polish language is one of the most important problems refugees have in finding decent work. Relocation, on the other hand, could be a good way to find work and housing at a price that is acceptable to refugees. The legal possibility of adopting such a solution, following the Nordic model, was discussed.

The issue of Ukrainian companies that employ Ukrainian workers in Poland also came up in the discussions - some of these companies do not comply with our laws, thus violating the rights of these workers. In many cases it is difficult to pursue claims against these companies, if only because of the reluctance of the injured parties to disclose their scale.
